Dear Guests,
you my hear or read from media that we have experience of high water in in Venice on the last days, I understand that for people never been in Venice or don't leaves here can be considerer an incredible catastrophy.
But we have to be honest with you high water is every 12 hours during the day like a normal marea at anywhere, the exception for Venice is that we are on the ground level therefore some time we
have high water flood in the city.
Acqua Alta is a phenomenon that regularly occurs in the city of Venice, most commonly during high and spring tide. It involves the flooding of the most low-lying areas of Venice or, in more severe cases, up to 96% of the City. By official definition, acqua alta occurs when water is higher than 90mm ( 3,54) above normal tide.
Acqua Alta occurs when certain events coincide:
A very high tide, usually during a full or new moon
Low atmospheric pressure
A scirocco wind blowing up the narrow, shallow Adriatic Sea, which forces water into the Venetian Lagoon
One of the lowest points of Venice is St. Mark's Square (or the Piazza San Marco) and this point is flooded most regularly.
The municipality of Venice has implemented a number of measures to ensure life continues as normally as possible. For example, boarding for pedestrians to walk on is erected during particularly severe times of flood (although it is advisable to wear rubber boots).
On the link below you will find the tide water forecast for the next 2/3 days
