Inauguration of the new Venetian Museum dedicated to Contemporary art.

Palazzo Grimani Venice

In reference to the decree of the 11th of December 2001, the Department of the Cultural Heritage committed the responsability for Palazzo Grimani, bought in the year 1981 by the State, to the Cultural Activities with the Special Board for the Venetian Pole of Museums.

The palace, reopened on the 20th of December 2008, represents a very precious and international novelty for the city of Venice for what concerns the peculiarity of the architecture, the decorations and for the history that characterized its vicissitudes.

Church if San Barnaba- Leonardo's Machines

Some of 40 models varying in type and size are faithfully reproduced according to their original drawing and present an overview of the huge colection of Leonardo's inventios: fromk th fields of building to mechanics, from hydraulics to war and flying machines.

Gallery Franchetti Ca' D'Oro

The Ca’ d'Oro, an ancient patrician residence of the fifteenth-century, gethers the art collection which Baron Giorgio Franchetti, who bought the building in 1894, gave the State.

In this house, decorated with a Venetian Gothic style, through fascinating architectonical glimpses, it is possible to admire paintings of the Venetian school among which the famous San Sebastiano by Andrea Mantegna, works of the Tuscan and the Flemish school, wonderful bronze statues and Renaissance statues as well.

At Ca’ Duodo, the palace next to the Ca’ d'Oro, there is an interesting collection of ceramics found  in the Venetian lagoon

Lido Island

 

 

 

Floating between the sea and the lagoon is the beautiful island of the Lido of Venice. Thanks to the continual coming and going of ferries it is easy to get to - even by car. And there is nowhere like it in the world. A few minutes away from Venice, kilometres of golden sands offer something for everyone, and, following careful environmental works, a sea that has grown cleaner year after year.

Torcello Island

What was once the "capital" of the lagoon north and bounded to the south-west from Burano Canal, north and east it borders on the marshy formations Rose and Centrega.

The island has a slightly trapezoidal shape and is at the heart of what was previously the heart of economic and social life of the Venetian civilization.

The ancient Dorceum or Turricellum to its full splendor came to house tens of thousands of inhabitants. Bishopric from 638 to 1689, saw its flowering in the early Middle Ages when it became a port of absolute importance, with the three channels that were opening to the sea, and the laboriosissime officine metallurgical, glass and processing of wool.

Burano Island

It lies South-East of Mazzorbo, among Torcello, S. Erasmo, and San Francesco del Deserto. It's the most important center of the Northern Lagoon and has 5 thousands of inhabitants. It's linked to Venice by public water buses.

Murano Island

Divided into nine islets crossed by a wide canal, Murano is the island of glass blowing. A long and still-thriving tradition, this magic art has involved whole generations of Murano residents. The Museum of Glass (open: from November to the end of March 10am-4pm; from April to October 10am-5pm. Closed Wednesdays) is a must for anyone wishing to bone up on the art of glass-making in Venice. Located in Palazzo Giustiniani - in times past the prestigious seat of the Bishops of Torcello - the museum has an extraordinarily rich collection of decorated articles and glass produced between the 15th century and the present - showing how tastes and styles have changed, and how experiments and new techniques
have affected a tradition that brings the island wealth and fame.
